5th month of development

The fifth month ...

What it can do by the end of the 5th month of its life:
•    It can keep its head up, even in sitting position.
•    It can rest on its shoulders and lift its chest when in prone position.
•    It can lift and move its legs and arms when in prone position.
•    It can turn over.
•    It can focus on very small objects e.g. a raisin.
•    It screams of pleasure.
•    It babbles.
•    It can scoot on its bottom.
•    It can grab and play with its toes when lying on its back.
•    When it holds something in its hands, like toys and objects, it tends to put them in its mouth.
•    It turns over from sitting position.
•    It grabs a toy, like a rattle, and shakes it intensely up and down.
•    It begins to chew.
•    It can watch your moves carefully.
•    It can turn its head to whoever is talking.

Attention! All children are different from each other and each one has its own growth rate. The development stages described are based on the average rate. Do not worry if your baby deviates from this average. If however you do notice something worrying in its development, contact your pediatrician.
