4th-week

4th week

LET'S GET MEASURED!
Size of baby: 0.36 to 1 mm
Congratulations on the 4th week of your pregnancy!
To be honest, no more than 2 weeks of actual pregnancy time have passed from the time that the... "winning" sperm of your loved one, defeated 350,000,000 competitors to meet the love of its life, that is your ovum. And from this ... "as close as can be" relationship has been created and developed with miraculous speed, your baby!
The exact date of fertilization of the ovum is not always easy to determine. For this reason, obstetricians count as the first day of gestation the first day of your last period. So if you have a 28-day-cycle, until you realize that you have delay, you're already in the 4th week of your pregnancy.
... Welcome to the mums world!

DID YOU KNOW THAT?

... It all started naturally and smoothly, with a ball of cells on one side and you on the other to stand in awe at the miracle of life?
Lets see what happens to your body during the first days of pregnancy.
The fertilized egg after a long journey from the fallopian tube, is implanted in the uterus. After implantation, the lining cells shape the embryo and the cells of the outer layer create the placenta and amniotic fluid, which will nourish the baby and protect it throughout pregnancy. The baby is a small almost invisible little ball consisting of hundred cells that are multiplying rapidly.
Once this ball of cells settles in the uterus, the placenta begins to release the pregnancy hormone (HCG), which also instructs your ovaries to stop further release of eggs. It is the hormone that makes the pregnancy test ... "positive".
Meanwhile, the amniotic fluid has begun to accumulate around the ball of cells into the cavity where the amniotic sac will be created. At this stage, it takes oxygen and nutrients through a primitive circulation system, which consists of tiny tunnels connecting the growing baby with the blood vessels of the uterus. The placenta is developed enough so to take on this task at the end of 4th week.
Your menstruation stops. Seeing, however, some drops of blood during pregnancy, it is not always worrying. You have bleeding or blood spots? Colour is pale brown or bright red? Bleeding can be either a sign of a serious problem or something trivial. In any case, it is appropriate to consult your doctor.
This week marks the beginning of the embryonic period. From now onwards, all the baby's organs will begin to develop and some will even begin to function. So this time the baby is more vulnerable to anything that might affect its development.
Hormones have taken over your body and mind. You may feel tired and sleepy, bloating, burning sensation, tenderness and feeling of heaviness in the chest or urinary frequency. Feelings are many and often contradictory. Fear, joy, excitement, emotionalism... The only sure thing is that for the next years you will not have time to be bored!

Advice
Directly cut abuses! From the first moment that you learned that the pregnancy test is positive, any abuse you make, will be recorded in your DNA, but possibly in the DNA of the foetus. Alcohol and pregnancy are mismatched duo. The same holds true for smoking. Do not take medicines without asking your doctor and you do not make any medical examination that could be harmful to the foetus, without his advice. He will inform you for the necessary tests to be done.
Good week ... and good pregnancy!
