38th week
LET'S GET MEASURED!
Size of baby: 47 cm
Baby's weight: 3.1 kilos
Two steps away from the "closing ceremony" of your pregnancy and I suspect that your cool is... bellow zero! Try to relax, do not miss one of the most beautiful moments of your life because "you didn't know what awaits you!" Your baby awaits you... And is looking forward to meeting you, just like you do too! Mature and ready now within the warm environment of your womb, it lives its own daily routine and as soon as it decides to meet the outside world, don't worry... it will let you know!
DID YOU KNOW THAT?
...There are some surveys showing that the time that we remain in the womb is at some point predetermined by our genes? We, simply, don't know it and we never find out! Some babies are more active and impatient, while others prefer to be lazy in the cosy womb as much as possible. Is this, we wonder, a sample of whether they will continue the have the same behaviour in later life?
The truth is that the baby, apart from its vital organs, develops its own personality too as it grows inside you. From the very beginning, it sees to become familiar with your body, something that human nature itself helps with. The same happens at the time of birth, and its instinct to come out to the light gets activated, pushing its little head and pressing its bones through the narrow birth canal and your own pelvis. A natural mechanism pushes it out. The miracle of life...!
But you too (even more so if it is your first pregnancy) are not familiar with the process. None of us is, if we have not experienced it. Your anxiety is justified, but panic is not. Because it upsets the baby too, since it feels what you feel. Tried to restrain this feeling, to help it and it will come into the world in peace. After all, it expects a big hug from you and you have to be calm to offer it...
The good standing of your mental and physical world, apart from relaxation exercises and proper breathing that is good to practice this time, will be assisted by a balanced diet rich in... nuts! Yes, nuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are known for "fortifying" our brain. So when you feel a craving, you can prepare a snack with nuts added to yoghurt or eat a cereal bar or a wholemeal biscuit with hazelnuts or even 4-5 plain unsalted almonds! The specific nuts contain magnesium, also very necessary in pregnancy (and in general).
Nuts are necessary during the breastfeeding period too. You can use them in your in-between meals, again as a snack. Your diet should be rich in both nutrients and calories as breast milk is a complete food for the baby.
Advice
If you are familiar with the internet, you know that you can find a wide variety of greeting cards. There are ready-made with cute patterns and texts, or more simple, which you can edit later. Since you spend -at least- the greatest part of the day at home, it is a good chance to surf the web and see what's new. You can find a good idea to announce to family and friends the much-expected 'it is a boy/girl!". Easy, fast and affordable. Gather the e-mails of senders you want from now and write the text you want to be on the card. Leave the test up to your partner. He will help you with sending the e-mail, while you'll be busy with breastfeeding your baby!
Have a pleasant week... and happy e-mail sending!
