22th week
LET'S GET MEASURED!
Size of baby: 24 cm
Baby's weight: 350 grams
22nd week and a tiny person starts to show from inside your tummy! Its lips, eyelids and eyebrows are more and more distinguishable. As well as its teeth through the gums. Its eyes have formed, but their colour not yet. The fluff covering its body and the deep wrinkles on its skin are now distinguished, which they will go away gradually, as it gains weight. The pancreas is also growing steadily. What is important now is to visit your doctor regularly, so that he monitors the baby's growth.
DID YOU KNOW THAT?
...Your hair is thicker during pregnancy? Actually, it is not that new hair are growing, it is just that less are falling during pregnancy (at last some comforting news, compared to bloating and other symptoms), so the result is shiny and healthy hair on your head! If you always wanted lots of hair, you can enjoy it now. If again, you already have thick hair and now feel them dry and tangled, you can use treatments (from natural ingredients, we recommend, such as olive oil and honey -in some cases egg too, if you have no allergies), but also to visit a hair salon and get a hair cut that suits and serves you.
Of course, possibly increased hormones known as androgens, may cause excessive hair growth. Do not worry if you see a few hair scattered here and there on your chin, tummy or your back. You can get rid of them with a little wax (allergy-tested) on the face and body. After childbirth they usually fall on their own anyway.
You will also notice a change to the texture of your nails! In some cases they become harder, while in others more fragile. Remember to put moisturiser on your hands to protect them, and use gloves when cleaning the house. Avoid nail polish and nail hardeners, because they may contain pigments that affect your pregnancy.
Of course, you will see your nipples to getting bigger and darker in colour. There is tenderness around the nipples of pregnant women, as the breast swells and grows by nearly two sizes. What can you do? Nothing! Experience and enjoy the time that your body is changing in order to welcome and care for the greatest gift of life, your baby!
You may notice stretch marks on the abdomen, buttocks, thighs or your breast, that is small stripes with different texture from the skin, in a colour that can range from pink to dark brown (depending on your normal skin colour). Heredity is partly responsible for natural elasticity of the skin, but these stretch marks will start to fade visually about 6 to 12 months postpartum. Using creams does not guarantee that these stretch marks will be eliminated, but it is good to moisturise your skin in order to reduce the symptoms of itching caused by the creation of stretch marks.
Advice
Wellness comes from within...! Halfway through your pregnancy, reward yourself with a soothing prenatal massage or even aromatherapy at home. Satin fabrics help with harmony. Tag your partner along to play and relax together, as if you were visiting a spa! Only now will you be able to create the right conditions in your home!
Have a pleasant week... and enjoy!
