The 5 Most Thoughtful Things I Do to Protect My Child!

As parents, we all do our best to raise safe and protected children—or at least we think we do.
In this blog post, I want to share the 5 most thoughtful and “researched” things I do for my children’s protection. I learned these tips from others; I’m not trying to present myself as an expert mom. But I consider all five to be incredibly important.

Grab a pen and take notes!

1. Sunscreen! Let your child enjoy a few minutes of sunlight!

Believe it or not, Greek kids rank last among European children in vitamin D levels because we are so diligent (good job, parents!) with sunscreen that their skin rarely absorbs this essential vitamin. Too much protection, it seems, has led to the opposite extreme!

My advice? Let your baby enjoy 5 minutes of sunlight early in the morning or late in the afternoon without sunscreen. Vitamin D is vital for healthy bones, and they need a way to absorb it! But don’t forget the hat!

2. Cotton clothing!

Before becoming a mom, I shopped for kids based solely on what I liked. I admit I’ve given non-cotton clothes to my godchildren, nieces, and friends’ kids. But cotton is the only material that truly hugs a baby’s skin gently and safely.
Be strict about choosing cotton clothes, pyjamas and underwear for your little one. If you can find organic cotton, that’s even better!

3. Choosing the right diaper

You know how much I love Babylino Sensitive Cotton Soft diapers. They make me feel secure because they are Medically Tested, the only diaper to receive a Product Safety Award from the European Commission, and the first diaper in Europe certified with the international OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100.
These diapers are dermatologically tested and designed with materials friendly to sensitive baby skin. They are certified to be free from more than 200 harmful substances—not just those proven harmful, but also those suspected of causing irritation to delicate baby skin.
They are also recommended by the Hellenic Association of Midwives and meet the strictest standards for babies aged 0–3 years. Babylino Sensitive is more than just a soft and absorbent diaper—it offers truly skin-friendly protection for my little ones, Odysseas and Iria.

 Managing Wi-Fi

Did you know you can reduce your home Wi-Fi intensity from the standard level (5) to a lower one (3)? Yes, you can! This ensures a strong wireless network that doesn’t reach your kids’ rooms while they sleep. Ask your technician to adjust the signal intensity.

Also, when your children use your phone or tablet, enable airplane mode to limit exposure to radiation.

Another important tip: Avoid placing your baby between a device’s transmitter and receiver. For example, if you use a baby monitor, don’t position your baby between the camera and the monitor’s screen in your living room. The sequence should always be: baby - camera - receiver.

5. The secret word!

Teach your child what “stranger” means and protect them by creating your own secret word! For instance, “strawberry” could be the word your child must hear before leaving school with an uncle or friend. Without the secret word, they shouldn’t go with anyone!

Remember to change your secret word every year. You can draw inspiration from your child’s favorite book!
