Back to School with a Smile and All the Essentials in Your Child’s Backpack!
Back-to-school season can be a bit of a challenge for both kids and parents. The relaxed, carefree days of summer give way to a structured schedule with timelines, plenty of “musts,” and, of course, the dreaded alarm clock!
Younger kids often find this transition more difficult compared to older ones. By second or third grade, children begin to see it as an annual routine and look forward to the next holiday break—Christmas—which isn’t too far away!
How to Make the Transition Easier for Younger Kids
The key to a smooth transition is proper preparation!
The first few weeks can be tough, especially in the mornings, when many children are reluctant to go to school. Parents should persist with a smile and explain—yes, even repeatedly—how proud they are of their child growing up!
At this stage, help your child associate their new grade with positive changes. For example, if they’re moving from preschool to kindergarten, tell them that this year they’ve grown up so much that they can now:
- Drive a bumper car at the amusement park by themselves.
- Help you cook their favorite meal.
- Have a sleepover at a friend’s house!
These were things they couldn’t do last year! Always focus on positive associations with their new grade.
Involve Them in Packing Their Backpack
A great idea is to pack their backpack together gradually instead of buying everything on the first day. Over the first few weeks, you can add small, essential items that make your child happy and remind them that school can be colorful, fun, and exciting!
What Should a Backpack Contain for Preschool to Kindergarten?
- A lunchbox
Their lunchbox should always include something solid and nutritious that won’t spoil from heat or transport. I recommend seasonal fruits or homemade cereal bars you can make together over the weekend!
- A water bottle
Make sure it seals properly to avoid spills and remind your child to drink plenty of water throughout the day!
- A change of clothes
An absolute must for a smooth back-to-school experience! Include a full change of clothes (or even two), as young children often get messy during playtime or activities like painting. Make sure to include socks and underwear if they’re no longer wearing diapers.
- Diapers
For children still in diapers, pack at least three Babylino Sensitive Cotton Soft pants. These diaper pants offer proven friendly protection, prevent leaks, and feature fun designs your child will love!
This could also be a good time to talk to their teacher about transitioning out of diapers.
- A pencil case
Who doesn’t remember their first pencil case? Fill it with colorful pens, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners. Your child will definitely need one!
- Labels
Get labels for notebooks and personal items to ensure they don’t get mixed up with their classmates’.
- Baby wipes
Children’s hands need frequent cleaning—at school, the playground, or during extracurricular activities. Pack BabyCare Chamomile wipes in their bag. With over 96% pure water and chamomile extract, these wipes gently clean and care for your child’s skin. They come in a compact size that fits perfectly in a backpack, with large wipes for effective cleaning.
- School supplies
Include items like colouring books, markers, crayons, safety scissors, rulers, and anything else the school recommends based on your child’s age. These tools bring creativity and fun to the classroom and at home!
A Fun and Happy School Year
Back-to-school season can be filled with excitement and smiles, setting the tone for a wonderfully creative year! It’s up to us to make it happen.
Wishing all children a happy and safe school year!
With all my love,
Myrto
