Kids’ Vacation Suitcase | 10 Essentials You Didn’t Know You Needed!
The hardest question for a new mom during summer is:
“What should I pack for my baby’s vacation?”
Packing a vacation suitcase for your baby feels like an entire project! Even for a short weekend trip, it often feels like you need a moving truck. Every mom has been there—packing half the house out of sheer anxiety (or let’s call it foresight!) to avoid being unprepared for her baby’s needs.
After two kids, I can confidently say that while we moms might overpack, there are 10 essential items that even the most organized moms might overlook. Some lessons, after all, are learned the hard way!
Here’s my list of must-haves for your child’s vacation suitcase.
1. A Pair of Baby Scissors
Trust me, you’ll need them! From rapidly growing nails to other unforeseen uses, don’t leave home without a pair of baby-safe scissors.
2. Their Comfort Toy
Never leave for a trip—no matter how short—without their comfort item! Sleeping in a new bed with unfamiliar smells can be unsettling, and without their favorite “lovey,” you might be in for sleepless nights. Forgot it? Check out the Babylino Sensitive Nanny Gallery (Home / Nanny Nanny) for a beautiful collection of comfort toys your baby will adore.
3. Anti-Slip Bath Mats
If your baby can stand or is under 3 years old, they’ll need an anti-slip bath mat for safety. Instead of packing a bulky mat, opt for anti-slip patches to make the hotel bath as safe as home.
4. Heat-Resistant Snacks
Bring organic cookies or cereal bars for healthy snack options. Kids often refuse hot meals in summer, and while at the beach for hours, a solid snack (in addition to water, fruits, and juices) can help keep their tummies satisfied.
5. A Waterproof Bag
A waterproof pouch is a lifesaver for storing wet swimsuits without soaking your entire bag. And remember, always change your child’s swimsuit immediately after swimming, especially for girls, to prevent irritation.
6. Pull-Up Diapers
If your child is over 2, summer is the perfect time to start potty training! Pack Babylino Sensitive Cotton Soft Pull-Up Diapers and Babylino Sensitive Bedpads to make the transition smoother.
7. Baby Oil
Summer can bring dermatitis or cradle cap in babies and dehydration in older kids’ skin due to the sun. Baby oil can solve these problems, and a soothing massage before bedtime can make falling asleep easier.
8. Sunglasses.
This is where I want you to be very careful. Did you know that putting sunglasses with poor-quality lenses on your child can cause serious damage to their eyes? If your child wears low-quality sunglasses, they might feel they can comfortably look at the sun, but their eyes won't actually be protected. All the radiation will reach their lenses instead. Therefore, when it comes to sunglasses, I want you to make the best choice!
9. A windbreaker jacket!
Yes, I know—when you're packing your child's vacation suitcase, it might be 40 degrees, and you might think it's unnecessary. However, whether you're on a ferry or at any coastal area in the country, wind is almost always a given! A lightweight windbreaker will protect your child, and the best part is that it weighs next to nothing.
10. The health record book.
Never, ever, ever go anywhere without your child's health record book. This is one of those things where you learn the hard way if you forget it, but I’m telling you with all my love: make it the first thing you pack every time for your vacation suitcase! And hopefully, you won’t need it, of course.
I know you already have everything else on your lists and in your minds! The most important thing about vacations with our children, whether they last 2 days or 15, is to spend quality time with them. Put your phones aside and play with your kids as if you were kids yourselves! Create beautiful memories together and enjoy every moment!
Have a great summer and happy swimming!
With all my love,
Myrto
