What Should Your Home Medicine Cabinet Contain?
What Your Home Medicine Cabinet Should Include:
- Hydrogen peroxide (oxygenated water)
- Cotton balls
- Thermometer
- Saline solution ampoules
- Scissors
- Syringes (without needles for measuring medication)
- Antipyretic (fever-reducing) syrups or suppositories
- Sterile gauze, adhesive bandages/plasters
- Elastic bandages
- Adhesive skin closure strips (steri-strips)
- Antihistamine cream or gel, helpful for insect bites
- Antihistamine syrup, useful for allergic reactions
- Cortisone cream, helpful for skin rashes or more severe allergic reactions after insect bites
- Antibiotic ointment combined with a mild steroid for anti-inflammatory action
- Cortisone drops (to be used only under medical guidance)
- Electrolyte solution (for cases of gastroenteritis or vomiting)
- Eye drops (for cases of conjunctivitis)
Important Notes:
- Always consult your paediatrician before giving any medication or applying treatments.
- Store all medications in a locked, high cabinet, out of your child’s reach.
- Do not store medications in your handbag, as children may open it and mistakenly ingest them. Many pills look like candy.
